ThingsPool is a 3D world that lives in a browser tab. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. You open it and you are already inside, walking around as a character, in a room that anyone else can walk into while you are there.
Everything you can see is made of blocks, and nearly all of it comes apart. Select a wall and it is yours to work on: change what it is made of, cut a doorway through it, hang a picture and pull the frame out to the size you want. The camera lifts off your shoulder and circles whatever you selected, so a ceiling is no harder to build than a floor.
No room starts empty, either. Rooms are generated — walls laid out, materials chosen, the first pictures already hung — so the place you arrive in has a character of its own before you have touched a block of it. What you do to the room after that is up to you, and the people who wander in will find it the way you left it.
This log is where the making of that gets written down. Each entry takes one thing that has just been finished — the camera, the room generator, the way two players see each other move — says what it does and why it was worth the trouble, and shows it in pictures taken from the running game. The machinery underneath is Three.js, WebGL and Socket.IO on Node.js, and the entries go into it where it makes the story better, but they are written to be read by anyone who plays.
The quickest way to find out whether any of this is for you is to go and stand in one of the rooms.
